Ancient Olive Tree at Vouves
This ancient olive tree is in the village of Ano Vouves and is probably one of the oldest olive trees in the world, it’s hard to believe it has been there for nearly 4 thousand years. What events have happened in the world since it was a sapling?
Branches from this tree were used to weave victors’ wreaths for the winners at the 2004 Athens and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
There is a display of old equipment used for olive oil pressing and wine making and also an old raki still.
There is a cafe on site too, or maybe you could call in at one of the local wineries,
Local Wineries
In the same area are at least 3 wineries where you can stop for free tasting. You will see the signposts for the wineries as you make your way to the olive tree both the Loupakis Winery and Anoskeli Winery are close by. To find them you will have to turn left out from the Olive Tree museum area and up the hill. The wineries are the other side of the hill.
