La Antigua Guatemala, a whistle stop tour

La Antigua Guatemala, a whistle stop tour

Around every street corner you find another lovely vista.  I love this place. It’s so untouched on the outside, well I suppose that’s what being a Unesco World Heritage Site does, no traffic lights, no neon signs, no 21st century clutter.

The Park and the Arch are where all the tourists flock

Central Park
Santa Catalina Arch

I lost count of how many photos I saw being taken of people standing in front of this arch. It seems the arch was built by the convent which was situated on the left hand side of the arch (in this photo).  They wanted to run a school so they bought a property on the other side of the road but because the nuns couldn’t be seen walking out and about in public they had this archway built so they could cross from the convent to the new school. This way the children got an education and the nuns stayed out of sight.

You can just see the arch in the top left hand corner. This photo was taken from a lovely little wine bar we stopped at a couple of times.

There are so many churches in such a small area I’m surprised there were enough people to fill them all.

Kazaj

Hi I'm Kaz, I am very happy that I no longer need to work and loving my life now I can choose what I want to do and when. Me and my hubby are lucky enough to own a motorhome so we like to travel quite extensively. Our adventure continues.
