Liverdun, Moselle, France
Liverdun is a tiny medieval village perched on the side of a rocky outcrop encircled by the Moselle River.
The Chateau was built as a retreat for the Bishop of Toul and was renovated in 2015 but since then it’s been converted into apartments. It and the town has stunning views over the Moselle loop which made for excellent fortification during medieval times.
It’s famous for its Madelines which can be found everywhere.
The Old Town is compact and has a small Church, Town Hall and covered market. When you walk round it generally it’s very quiet but once a year, in May, it comes to life with a re-enactment of a Medieval Fayre.
It’s also known for having little statues dotted around on the sides or corners of buildings
And we were lucky enough to be staying here when the Medieval Fayre was on. It was good fun.
This is what they did to naughty kids!
Here are some of the medieval musicians and performers.
If you dressed in Medieval clothes you got in free, however, we decided to pay the exorbitant €6 entrance fee but we could have hired an outfit from the Tourist information office for not much more.
We’ve had a great few days here, we visited Metz and Nancy too. Wish we’d booked a few more days as there’s more to see. Hey ho. Maybe next time. 🤞
The food looked good!!
This is the kind of culture I do enjoy!
