Guatemala- only one year ago today

I can’t believe that a year has passed since we got married in Antigua Guatemala last year.

It took some organising and we “lost” our documents (original birth certificates, marriage and divorce papers) for a couple of months, they eventually turned up at the lawyers office but I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve now been cloned and have a ‘twin’ somewhere in Central America!!!

The civil ceremony took place in a wonderful hotel Casa Santo Domingo which had originally been a Monastery 400 years ago. It has an even longer pedigree as a holy place as it’s purported to have been a sacred Mayan site of worship a thousand years earlier. The monastery was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in the 18th century and Antigua was abandoned. Guatemala City was made the capital instead.

It took 50 years before people started living in Antigua again, it is now a Unesco World Heritage site and has been preserved, so no traffic lights, neon signs or anything which would make it look like the 21st century and it is heavenly.

Our Shaman ceremony was held at the hotel Maison Panza Verde and was absolutely riveting, we were spell bound throughout.
